Terms of Use

Last updated: October 29, 2026

Welcome to San Diego Consumers’ Action Network (SanDiegoCAN). These Terms of Use are the rules for using this website. By using the site, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

What This Site Is

SanDiegoCAN is an information website. We publish articles, guides, and alerts to help San Diegans save money, avoid scams, and make smart choices as consumers.

We do not provide services to individual people. We cannot look into or settle individual complaints, contact businesses for you, or give advice about your own situation.

Information Only, Not Professional Advice

Everything on this site is general information. It is not legal, financial, medical, or tax advice. It does not replace advice from a qualified professional who knows the facts of your situation.

Prices, offers, store hours, programs, laws, and other details change, sometimes quickly. We try to keep our information accurate, but we cannot promise that everything on the site is complete, current, or free of errors. Please check important details with the business, agency, or other source before you rely on them.

Some older articles stay on the site for reference. Check the date on an article before relying on it.

We Are Not Your Lawyer

Some friends of this site are lawyers or law firms. Reading this site or sending us a message does not make anyone your lawyer. Messages you send through the site are not protected by attorney-client privilege (the legal rule that keeps talks with your own lawyer private). If you need legal advice, please talk with a lawyer directly.

Businesses, Recommendations, and Links

When we mention a store, product, service, or program, we are sharing information we think may be useful. A mention is not a promise about the business or what it sells, and your experience may be different. We are not responsible for purchases you make or services you get from other businesses. If we ever receive payment or any other benefit connected to something we recommend, we will say so in the article.

Our articles link to other websites for your convenience. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, offers, or privacy practices. A link does not mean we endorse the site.

Information You Send Us

If you send us a tip, idea, or other information through our contact form, you allow us to use it to research and write articles for this site. We will not publish your name or contact information without your permission. We may not be able to reply to every message.

Please do not send private, sensitive, or financial information through the site.

Using the Site Responsibly

You agree not to use this site to break the law, violate anyone’s rights, send spam or harmful code, interfere with how the site works, or collect information about other people. We may block anyone who breaks these Terms.

Our Content

The articles, images, and other original content on this site belong to SanDiegoCAN or to those who gave us permission to use them, and they are protected by copyright. You are welcome to share links to our articles and to quote short passages with credit and a link back to the original. Please do not otherwise copy, republish, or distribute our content without our written permission.

If you believe something on this site uses your copyrighted work without permission, let us know through our contact form. Please include:

  • The work you own
  • Where the material appears on our site
  • How we can reach you
  • A statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorized

We will review complete notices and respond.

No Warranties

We provide the site and its content “as is” and “as available.” That means we make no promises (warranties) of any kind, whether stated or implied. This includes any promise that the content is accurate, that it fits your particular purpose, or that it does not infringe anyone’s rights.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, SanDiegoCAN and the people who contribute to it are not responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages that come from your use of the site or your reliance on its content. In plain terms, we are not liable for losses that result indirectly from using the site.

Governing Law

California law governs these Terms. Any dispute about the site or these Terms will be handled only in the state or federal courts in San Diego County, California, and you agree to have those courts decide it. If any part of these Terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top shows when they last changed. If you keep using the site after a change, the updated Terms apply.
