San Diego Consumers’ Action Network (SanDiegoCAN) wants everyone to be able to use this website, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification, voice control, or other assistive technology.
Our Standard
We strive to make this site conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. These guidelines, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), explain how to make web content easier to use for people with disabilities. Accessibility is an ongoing effort, and we review the site as we add and update content.
What We Have Done
- Text and links are designed to meet WCAG color contrast requirements.
- Pages use a clear heading structure, one main heading per page, and labeled page regions so screen reader users can move around easily.
- A “Skip to content” link lets keyboard users go straight to the main content.
- The site can be used with a keyboard alone, and links and buttons show a visible focus outline.
- Images that carry information have text descriptions (alt text). Purely decorative images are marked so screen readers skip them.
- Our contact form has visible labels for every field and does not use a CAPTCHA puzzle.
- Layouts adjust to phones, tablets, and desktop screens, and text can be enlarged with your browser’s zoom.
- Videos load only when you choose to play them.
- We test pages with automated accessibility tools and by checking them with a keyboard.
Known Limitations
SanDiegoCAN has published articles for more than a decade, and we are still updating older material. Some older articles may include screenshots of advertisements, documents, or charts that are not fully described in text. Embedded videos and pages on other websites that we link to are controlled by others and may not meet the same standards.
If anything on this site is difficult for you to use, please tell us. We will work to fix the problem or provide the information in another way.
